What is the Great West Way?

The Great West Way is a touring route following 500 miles of navigable ancient pathways between London and Bristol. This historic route also stretches as far as Oxford and the Cotswolds further north, and Stonehenge and Hampshire in the south. Explore by bike, boat, foot, rail or car as you discover a range of quaint villages and elegant towns across the Great West Way route, including Royal WindsorReadingMalmesbury and Bath.

  1. At the western end of the Great West Way you’ll find Bristol and Bath. A blessing for the urban adventurer since these 2 cities are so close together geographically - just 15 minutes by train - yet miles apart in character.
  2. Just a couple hours away from London, the Cotswolds National Landscape offers the perfect taste of quintessential England. Featuring honey-coloured limestone villages, rolling farmland and local pubs.
  3. Centrally located along the Great West Way, you’ll find the county of Wiltshire. Patchwork fields, chalk plateaux's and irresistibly pretty villages.
  4. Considering its proximity to London, this home county is big on old English charm. With its leafy villages, wild pastures and horse-drawn canal boats, you can hop off the train and feel as though you’ve travelled back in time a few hundred years.
