The two Grade I listed heritage pavilions which form the property were originally commissioned as a fishing retreat in 1723 by the third Duke of Marlborough. These have been completely restored and renovated by YTL Hotels, with beautifully landscaped gardens and picturesque views of the River Thames. Set across seven acres, Monkey Island Estate features 27 exquisite guestrooms and three sumptuous suites, designed by the award-winning New York-based Champalimaud Design. In addition to these rooms there are six Private Residences, all named to reflect their individual nature. The Rooms and Residences are endearingly furnished with an attention to detail and keep true to their classic character against the backdrop of the delightful village of Bray.
The surroundings are refined yet intimate and informal, and steeped in history. The cuisine is a modern take on British classics, with freshly sourced produce from the gardens and surrounding countryside. There are several options to choose from when it comes to dining; have an elegant meal in the Monkey Island Brasserie or on the terrace with views of the River Thames. Afternoon Tea may be enjoyed here or in the characterful setting of the Monkey Room with its famous Renaissance ceiling. Drinks can be served in the Monkey Bar or the Whisky Snug.
Monkey Island Estate is well renowned for hosting a range of events and celebrations. Featuring the stately and spacious Ballroom, the graceful River Room and the more intimate Spencer Suite and Boardroom, Monkey Island Estate has event space for every occasion. Whether you are looking to hold a dream countryside wedding, memorable corporate retreat, important business conference or private dining event near London, all needs can be accommodated.
Take the chance to unwind on board the luxury Floating Spa with its bespoke treatment rooms, first of its kind. A refuge of Georgian elegance and seclusion on the banks of the River Thames, the Floating Spa takes inspiration from its riverine surroundings, past inhabitant in the form of royalty, liturgy and literary stars.
